A man has died in a horrific hot air balloon crash after the craft burst into flames mid-air.

Pictures show the balloon hundreds of feet in the air moments before it plunged and crashed into trees near Ombersley Court, Worcestershire at around 6.20am today.

Firefighters, paramedics and police rushed to the scene but, despite their best efforts, were sadly unable to save the male pilot.

This weekend saw hundreds enjoying the first ever Worcester Balloon Festival at the city’s racecourse.

The festival was cancelled last month due to bad weather and was rearranged to take place from Friday to Saturday evening.

An event spokesperson said the balloon which crashed was independent, and not connected to the festival.

They said: “There was an incident this morning, under investigation, it wasn’t the festival it was independent.
