M40 sees 10 miles of traffic build after vehicle fire – as it happened

The M40 saw 10 miles of traffic build southbound this afternoon (Sunday). It came after a vehicle fire before 3pm closed lanes.

As of 4pm, one lane remained closed, but it was still taking more than and hour to get through. The issues were near junction six.

National Highways said: “There are severe delays on the M40 southbound within J6 near (Chinnor, Oxfordshire) due to vehicle fire.”

Traffic monitoring system Inrix said: “M40 Southbound exit slip road closed severe delays, one lane closed, queueing traffic for ten miles due to earlier car fire at J6 B4009 (Watlington). Congestion to a mile before J8a Oxford Services.

“Travel time is 1 hour 25 minutes. Lane one (of three) remains closed, along with the slip road.”
